No known species of reindeer can fly. BUT there are 300,000 species of living organisms yet to be classified, and while most of these are insects and germs, this does not COMPLETELY rule out flying reindeer which only Santa has ever seen.
There are 2 billion children (persons under 18) in the world. BUT since Santa doesn't (appear) to handle the Muslim, Hindu, Jewish and Buddhist children, that reduces the workload to 15% of the total - 378 million according to Population Reference Bureau. At an average (census) rate of 3.5 children per household, that's 91.8 million homes. One presumes there's at least one good child in each.
Santa has 31 hours of Christmas to work with, thanks to the different time zones and the rotation of the earth, assuming he travels east to west (which seems logical). This works out to 822.6 visits per second. This is to say that for each Christian household with good children, Santa has 1/1000th of a second to park, hop out of the sleigh, jump down the chimney, fill the stockings, distribute the remaining presents under the tree, eat whatever snacks have been left, get back up the chimney, get back into the sleigh and move on to the next house.
Assuming that each of these 91.8 million stops are evenly distributed around the earth (which, of course, we know to be false but for the purposes of our calculations we will accept), we are now talking about 0.78 miles per household, a total trip of 71.604 million miles, not counting stops to do what most of us must do at least once every 31 hours, plus feeding etc. This means that Santa's sleigh is moving at 650 miles per second, 3,000 times the speed of sound. For purposes of comparison, the fastest man-made vehicle on earth, the Ulysses space probe, moves at a poky 27.4 miles per second - a conventional reindeer can run, tops, 15 miles per hour.
The payload on the sleigh adds another interesting element. Assuming that each child gets nothing more than a medium-sized lego set (2 pounds), the sleigh is carrying 321,300 tons, not counting Santa, who is invariably described as overweight. On land, conventional reindeer can pull no more than 300 pounds. Even granting that "flying reindeer" (see point #1) could pull TEN TIMES the normal amount, we cannot do the job with eight, or even nine. We need 214,200 reindeer. This increases the payload - not even counting the weight of the sleigh - to 353,430 tons. Again, for comparison - this is four times the weight of the Queen Elizabeth.
353,000 tons traveling at 650 miles per second creates enormous air resistance - this will heat the reindeer up in the same fashion as spacecrafts re-entering the earth's atmosphere. The lead pair of reindeer will absorb 14.3 QUINTILLION joules of energy per second each. In short, they will burst into flame almost instantaneously, exposing the reindeer behind them, and create deafening sonic booms in their wake. The entire reindeer team will be vaporized within 4.26 thousandths of a second. Santa, meanwhile, will be subjected to centrifugal forces 17,500.06 times greater than gravity. A 250-pound Santa (which seems ludicrously slim) would be pinned to the back of his sleigh by 4,315,015 pounds of force.
In conclusion - If Santa ever DID deliver presents on Christmas Eve, he's been vaporized by now! |

i'm back in sunny Michigan!
well i was yesterday, happened to be the last person they got on for stand by, sooooo glad that ordeal is over. No more traveling during the holidays, that is for sure. Blah, now i gotta get to work from home for the next short while. I think thats the plan anyway til the 12th, then i go back to San Diego for an all hands training thing. After that I'm not sure exactly what is going to happen to me as far as the company is concerned. There is talk of sending me to West virginia to get some practical field training. But I'm focusing on the moment for now.

I'm stuck in Denver Airport...after being stuck in the San Diego airport.
Oh yea, i meant to post while i was out there...or any time in the last few months lol. I got a new job and the HQ is located in San Diego so i was there the last two weeks, blah blah blah, i'm on my way home, or at least trying. I was supposed to be home about 6:30pm EST Friday night but my plane in San Diego was delayed because of mechanical issues, then they weren't taking connections. I had to wait in line about two hours to try and get a resolution, which there was none until my supervisor came though with the Detroit via Denver route. Anyway, there was another delay (three hours this time) resulting in me missing the connection to Detroit by a good two hours. It was about Three hours from when i got in line for the customers service desk til when i got a new ticket which is for standby at 10ish in the morning (mountain time). So i'm keeping my fingers crossed with that. I really want to be home. The airline wouldn't front the bill for a hotel, instead offering me a voucher. I'm not that tired and I got my phone/laptop plugged into a wall-outlet i found so i think i'll just stay here instead of trying to get a hotel set up. I just don't want any more hassle today. |

last night was the first time i went out socially since i left the apartment.
Me and Aaron went to the G, as usual there were dozens of people he knew there.
I drank coffee while aaron did his social butterfly thing.
Aside from the one old friend of mine i haven't seen in forever.
Him and I tried to start a band back in high school but it never panned out.
I miss how much fun i had in bands, even though none got out of a garage/basement haha.
Just trying to say we go way back.
I talked with aaron about a lot of things.
Various topics, he wanted me to vent about ashley.
I didn't want it to be the main topic of conversation.
We talked, it was therapeutic.
It's nice to have a neutral/uninvolved person to talk to.
I came home and started writing someone i knew i would regret so no one is going to see it.
Unless shit happens maybe.
I was writing about everything about my marriage.
I shouldn't go into it.
I realize no matter what i do now Ashley has moved on.
I just spent that last four hours solid writing.
It's practically a thesis.
It started as a general defense and response to what she may have told friends and family along with my feelings on everything.
But i decided not to make my business public again.
It upset Ashley enough when i said we were getting a divorce.
And that i didn't take down that post fast enough.
I don't want to give her more reasons to cry.
Enough tears have been shed on both sides of the fence.
I tried to watch fight club to put me to sleep, it didn't work like it used to.
That movie used to be like visually induced sleep aids for me.
I wish there was a movie i cared about watching right now.
Or something to do besides chain smoking. |

SaturdayMay 10th LANarchy first event! Counter-StrikeSource, Team Fortress 2, Battlefield 2, Unreal Tournament 3,Starcraft, Command & Conquer 3, Warcraft 3. I'm starting a LANtournament to make LAN gaming interesting instead of paying to play agame we can play for free at home. Rented space in an old Bead Store,second floor has a fridge and microwave so we'll have drinks(bawls/monster) and snacks available (pocky for example). The ownermight let it be used more if these first two go well. RTS games willbe 1v1 random match up tournament. FPS will be death match or 5vs5 or10vs10 teams. It is only $5 to enter and play but $10 per tournament(all money goes to winners). You can still play if you don't pay itjust means even if you get first place you wont win the prize money.Gotta bring your own rig and some Cat5, I'll have just abouteverything else. No drugs, alcohol or open containers. Release formsneeded for people under 17 due to ESRB ratings. well i went ahead and registered http://lanarchy.info/ in preparation for that whole idea going down. All i gotta do is get it hosted, which my father in law said he'd do with whatever he goes through, like cyber usa or something off the wall like that. Either way, its coming together. We cleared out the Southgate store on saturday for a win win. He got merch/equipment out of a closed store of his and I get to use the space. I'm aiming for this saturday to be the first one, but with such limited time I don't think the turn out will be very good. So I have a busy day ahead of me, hitting up comic shops before everyone goes to them in the middle of the week, i'm trying to hit up game stores too. I gotta make a handbill first, Oy, promotion is such a drag. Planning out my route will be the hardest thing, after that it should be peas and carrots. Then i'll buckle down on the Online Stuff, there are a few sites I know of that will help. Blah, i should get some sleep. |

They said it wasn't related to my performance, which kinda makes me feel a tiny bit better.

besides taking care of the baby, i've been spending my morning looking at ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif) bodymods as well as cringing at shitty_mods (not for the weak of stomach, or people who dont like seeing body parts being all...deformed or bloodified). Oh and playing random games online. Right now i'm playing (in order of fun/coolness): hobowars, Tribal wars and Bitefight. All of which are html based and easy for me to play even if Lyra is sleeping in my arms. The funniest part of hobowars is the adventure chain of quests that mirrors LOTR cliff notes version manner using thugs, pimps, etc instead of orcs, elves and hobbits. Speaking of Elves, i came across ear pointing while looking at the body mod stuff and i like how it looks...if it heals well. If it doesnt heal well then you look like a vulcan or elf who's ears were held to a fire. The other two games are rather boring since i dont enjoy the 'click i win' experience. I mean, there isnt skill, just numbers. In more recent news i'm not playing WoW and havent in the last month or two. I hit a brick wall and got bored of the battle grounds and honor farming while re-gearing from retrib to holy. I'm a little burnt out for now and i suppose i'll start back up sooner or later when the wow-itis gets me or when Wrath of the Lich King comes out. Which ever comes first. Other news: Lyra and Ashley are well. I caught Lyra throwing up the horns the other day and got a picture of it on Ashley's camera, but i cant find the usb for it so cant get it off. Pics of that to come asap. Also i've cut my hair into a mohawk and have lightning bolts on the side of my head. Both were made as a product of boredom and experimental hair fashion. There has been some other stuff going on too, nothing too important.
Quick run down of the last few days:
Thursday i hung out with kevin and amatis.
friday was date night (sushi and a movie)
Saturday was my mother in laws surprise birthday party.
Saturday night/Sunday morning was brawl fest.
Sun was spent at the in laws. |

we got bored earlier and blah blah blah, i have another mohawk. I think this is the third or fourth i've ever had...kinda lost count. It may also be a byproduct of the typical quarter life crisis thing. I meant to cut it as a V-day gift but doing so in the past only ended in epic fail. Speaking of V day, we got to leave our daughter at Ashley's parents house so we could go out. We went out for sushi but when we arrived at the place the waiting room was ass to elbows so we went to a thai place a stone's throw away, then we saw 'Definently, Maybe' just because we could i guess. It was funny but not entirely romantic as it seemed by the ads. Still pwning at hobowars and i havent touched wow in a while, but i also havent been on my main PC in a long while either. Anywho...I'm still getting re-used to the whole most of my head is shaved thing. |

so i was sittin around ashley's parents the last few days and while i was clicking around the interwebs i got bored and started playing hobowars. its pretty funny and it seems to have evolved over time even though it's still html based it seems more fun than some flash games i've played. I got to level 7 and i'm two days into it, that probably isnt something to brag about thought. i never know if i should use my points for fighting (to get xp and do more stuff) or raising stats. It also has its own wiki which i think is cool, but what doesnt nowadays?

my baby is home!
I'm so happy, we just got in from the hospital and i'm watching her sleep on a video monitor.
She's something pretty special, lemme tell ya.
Ashley and I have been chomping at the bit to get her home and its finally done.
I'm partically happy that she's home since now i don't have to drive to the hospital to see her.
Anywho, it's been a weird past 48 hours, the drive to and from the hospital today was crazy b/c of snow.
i need to lay down. |

so me and ashley have been getting a lot more active lately after her return home from the hospital. We're still visiting Lyra every day at least once. It bums me out that our daughter is still unable to return home with us, the devastation is even more apparent on ashley. She's slightly depressed because of it but that got blown out of purport ion by her mother like everything else does so she has a lot of family/friends calling or emailing her asking if everything is alright. It is, just not as good as we want them to be. In other news, ash and i have gotten really competitive after finally creating a Chore Wars house hold. Just for shits and giggle's, my character sheet is here and we even made characters for our daughter and cat the whole party list is here. For those of you not familiar, its a website that makes it easy to keep track of chore's done around the home or office (or any group of people that know each other really) and who does said chores. It makes real stuff into a game and we even established a reward system, for example i need 780 more gold for a new tattoo (or piercing) while ashley needs 992 though there are plenty of other things to be rewarded with. When i first heard about CW it was through penny arcade (heres the comic) and i can fairly say that it has already gotten to the point displayed in the comic after only three days. I'm now looking for things to do instead of being told to do such and honestly, it makes me feel like a better living partner/husband...not to mention totally beating ashley (so far).

this is site was made by my father in law, we have more pictures but they haven't gotten up on there yet.
She is doing a lot better, they're weaning her off the oxygen (she's at 25% and the norm is 21%, was at 30% originally).
Ashley and I have left the hospital but because she isn't in tip top shape Lyra is still at the hospital.
She's battling jaundice which they told us isnt too uncommon, but all the nurses said they can do is put her under some light and hope her liver gets better.
We've both held her today and ashley held her the day before, she really doesn't like leaving our daughter at the hospital and i don't blame her.

well everyone, ashley had our baby yesterday.
Lyra Athena Wilson was born on 5:14pm, 5 pounds 1 ounce, 18 inches long.
All is fine or at the least typical of a baby in our position. She's on an oxygen hood which is more than common for 35 weeks and c section.
I just came home to pick up some things for ashley and do the whole daily hygiene thing for myself. Just thought i'd let you all know the news.
Her birthday will be easy to remember because it's black friday, i also was joking that it would be easy to find a good deal on a birthday present for her in the future.
The only downside is that we were expecting to deliver at least a week later so our baby room is hardly prepared, i don't even have everything here from the baby shower yet.
The insurance is still in the works as well, oh well, worst case is i'm in debt for life. Anywho, i'm gunna go take care of stuff, i cant stay on the computer too much longer with my cat that is dying for affection right now jumping all over the place. |
